On this beautiful sunny morning I’m on the train going back North to Glasgow planning my repertoire for events coming up this Spring and Summer. I’ve been working for the past couple of weeks to get some money together for a planned event in Italy and resting my voice after that awful throat cold I had. Now I need to work on the songs for my performances and my Spring term at RCS.
Tomorrow, 21st April, I’m performing with Les Sirenes at St Andrew’s Kirk Helensburgh.
I need to finalise my pieces for the International Music Eisteddfod in Llangollen in July, this is my first time at this competition, I’m really looking forward to it, I love North Wales. I believe I have to get there early because parking gets difficult because its such a popular event.
I also have some exciting events coming up this July in Nantwich, Cheshire; August in Lytham St Anne’s; and at the end of August in Rochdale see my website for more information in the next few weeks. Russell Lomas will be accompanying me on Piano and Elliot Gresty will be performing some solo pieces on the clarinet..
Then I have fabulous events coming up with Tideswell Male Voice Choir this year, the first one is 27th July 2013 at Tideswell Parish Church. Then Sunday 11th August 2013 at Gawsworth Hall, a Les Miserable Experience with the choir and fellow up-and-coming artists. Just in reference to your biography: was Helen Bates’ Dancing School any relation to Joan Bates’ Dancing School? My younger sister used to go to Joan Bates’, many years ago.
I am not sure if she was but I will ask around as the dance world is quite small so there is a possibility that the two teachers were related.
I have just taken up my ballet again whilst studying at the Conservatoire in Glasgow. It helps with my performance on stage.
I hope you do get a chance to come along to the Stockport Plaza in October. The Tydeswell male voice choir, that i perform with, raise alot of money for charities at these performances. 🙂
Hi Charlotte, thanks for the follow. I love music, all genres (except perhaps rap!). My grandmother was a music teacher and we all learned to play an instrument. I ‘dabble’ with the piano, guitar and sing away. I’m no performance artist, but I appreciate those that are, so good luck with your career. Looking at your blog it sounds like you’re going to be very busy!

Thanks for your kind words of support 🙂 I love what I do and hope that I am lucky enough to earn a living from my singing in the future. I take whatever performance opportunities are presented to me, work hard on my technique and strive to improve my language skills. But will need all the support that I can get if I am to break through into the world of opera that I love so much.
I read on your blog about your wish list. My mother is a keen crafter and produces some lovely work. So I wish you well with your projects and hope you get a lot of satisfaction from your achievements.

Our worlds may be different but I believe everyone should be able to express there love of the arts. there is room for everyone and we should embrace the differences and celebrate the things we have in common.

Cool beans, Charlotte. When did you first realize you wanted to sing? And to sing opera?
I started singing Disney Sing Along songs as soon as I could talk but my love of singing opera arias started about the age of 13 to 14. I was never alowed a microphone at school in music theatre productions as the sound techs said I was too loud 🙂 So classical music lets me be myself and I love it.
When did you know that you wanted to write your first book? Is it what you expected it to be?

Only saw your reply now, Charlotte. Thanks for answering my curiosity. For me, I wanted to write, and have written, since I could pick up a pencil at five. Then again, I remember writing in other lifetimes, which always seemed natural for me, albeit unnatural for my parents when I mentioned it!
I have seven books out. Each holds my interest until I’ve completed it. Later, as a reader only, I sometimes read them again.
Thanks Ronald, I love to know where people draw their inspiration from to do the things they are passionate about. Seeing how people have succeeded after years of perseverance is encouraging as I know I have many years of training in front of me before I can hope to break through 🙂

Call me, Ron, please. You know, it does take know-how and practice to accomplish your singing goals but, unless you think it so, it does not take time, as you have postulated in your reply. Why not consider taking the time out of it? Stay true to your purpose, practice and goals; stay on the purpose line to sing, and you may arrive sooner than you think! Let it be.

Hi Donna, my Mum wants to have the front of our garden at home completely re-worked and we were discussing what to do as we both love flowers. Unfortunately my Dad is not green fingered and as there is some heavy landscaping involved we will have to bring in a Landscape Gardner if we are to get the project off the ground 🙂
