Spring into Summer…

CharlotteLarge2

On this beautiful sunny morning I’m on the train going back North to Glasgow planning my repertoire for events coming up this Spring and Summer.  I’ve been working for the past couple of weeks to get some money together for a planned event in Italy and resting my voice after that awful throat cold I had.  Now I need to work on the songs for my performances and my Spring term at RCS.

Tomorrow, 21st April, I’m performing with Les Sirenes at St Andrew’s Kirk Helensburgh.

I need to finalise my pieces for the International Music Eisteddfod in Llangollen in July, this is my first time at this competition, I’m really looking forward to it, I love North Wales.  I believe I have to get there early because parking gets difficult because its such a popular event.

I also have some exciting events coming up this July in Nantwich, Cheshire; August in Lytham St Anne’s; and at the end of August in Rochdale see my website for more information in the next few weeks.  Russell Lomas will be accompanying me on Piano and Elliot Gresty will be performing some solo pieces on the clarinet..

Then I have fabulous events coming up with Tideswell Male Voice Choir this year, the first one is 27th July 2013 at Tideswell Parish Church.  Then Sunday 11th August 2013 at Gawsworth Hall, a Les Miserable Experience with the choir and fellow up-and-coming artists.  See www.tideswellmvc.co.uk for tickets, times etc. I hope to get all the information updated on my website at soon.

  1. Hi Charlotte, thanks for visiting my site.

I’n not an opera lover, so I’m unlikely to have heard any of your work, but I wish you every success with it. You’re obviously talented and dedicated. A pleasure to look at your site.

    Martin

    1. Hi Martin

Thanks for your lovely comments keep up with the writing, the more people that see your work the better your chances of breaking through. Like in the world of music you could be the best singer in the world but if no one sees you or hears you then no one will ever know 🙂

As for not being an opera lover maybe one day when I break through myself you will hear my work and I can convert you 🙂

  2. Hi Charlotte

You may get your chance when you play Stockport Plaza: I’ll try to get to that performance.

Just in reference to your biography: was Helen Bates’ Dancing School any relation to Joan Bates’ Dancing School? My younger sister used to go to Joan Bates’, many years ago.

    1. I am not sure if she was but I will ask around as the dance world is quite small so there is a possibility that the two teachers were related.

I have just taken up my ballet again whilst studying at the Conservatoire in Glasgow. It helps with my performance on stage.

I hope you do get a chance to come along to the Stockport Plaza in October. The Tydeswell male voice choir, that i perform with, raise alot of money for charities at these performances. 🙂

  3. Hi Charlotte, thanks for the follow. I love music, all genres (except perhaps rap!). My grandmother was a music teacher and we all learned to play an instrument. I ‘dabble’ with the piano, guitar and sing away. I’m no performance artist, but I appreciate those that are, so good luck with your career. Looking at your blog it sounds like you’re going to be very busy!

    1. Hi Susan

Thanks for your kind words of support 🙂 I love what I do and hope that I am lucky enough to earn a living from my singing in the future. I take whatever performance opportunities are presented to me, work hard on my technique and strive to improve my language skills. But will need all the support that I can get if I am to break through into the world of opera that I love so much.

I read on your blog about your wish list. My mother is a keen crafter and produces some lovely work. So I wish you well with your projects and hope you get a lot of satisfaction from your achievements.

All the best for the future.

      Charlotte

  4. Hey Charlotte, stunned by yr ‘follow’. Our worlds seem so different but maybe we can learn from each other….are you into punk at all? or mysticim?? Keep up the good work though!

    1. Our worlds may be different but I believe everyone should be able to express there love of the arts. there is room for everyone and we should embrace the differences and celebrate the things we have in common.

      Keep up the blogging 🙂

      Charlotte

  5. Hi Charlotte, thanks for following my blog! Lovely to see yours and wishing you all the best with your singing career. I grew up on opera (my grandfather and great aunt were both opera singers) and it definitely influenced my writing. Hmm, perhaps I’ll write a post about it sometime 😉 Cheers!

  6. Wow!Your life is so exciting and I am glad to have you following me, I am so glad that you do so I can check your posts out. I have some ancestors from Scotland so I look forward to hearing about your country. Also, I was interested in your singing and theatre activities! Take care and stay in touch, Robin

  7. Thanks for liking ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ and following. I wish you success with your blog, and will be back to check you out. Regards, Pete.

    1. Thanks for your best wishes Pete and you would be most welcome to return whenever you like. Keep up with your own blog as shared thoughts can be most enlightening.

      Bye for now, Charlotte

  8. Hi Charlotte, thanks for stopping by! I am a soprano myself but never went farther than learning a few lines from Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro. But I love it – it’s so beautiful! Looking forward to follow your blog and maybe watching your videos online!

  9. Thank you Charlotte for Following my blog and I gladly return the favor. I am not familiar with your music but will see about changing that. I hope you enjoy reading at least half as much as I do writing. Now I shall take a stroll through your site. Well met and fair winds to you.

  10. Thank you for visiting my blog today. I appreciate the time you took to stop by. May your day be filled with joy and peace.
    BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!

  11. Best of wishes to you in your singing career! You’ve got a lot of exciting things going on. And thanks for dropping by my fstopfantasy.wordpress.com photography blog and liking it. I’m sure my photography isn’t nearly as good as your singing, but I get along.

I used to could sing a bit; I used to could talk, too. Onward and upward to you!

  12. Charlotte, thanks so much for coming by and liking my blog posting! I come from a family where music is appreciated and valued with many teachers as well as performers. I wish you success and enjoyment while you help others find joy through your performances! Feel free to stop by anytime if you need some paper-crafted creations to rest your eyes on!

    1. Thanks for your kind support and I wish both you and your daughter ever success in the coming years. I had to move away from my Mum to study and it made my relationship with her stronger. We use “facetime” as often as possible to talk as it is a great way to communicate.

      All the very best
      Charlotte

  13. I started singing Disney Sing Along songs as soon as I could talk but my love of singing opera arias started about the age of 13 to 14. I was never alowed a microphone at school in music theatre productions as the sound techs said I was too loud 🙂 So classical music lets me be myself and I love it.

When did you know that you wanted to write your first book? Is it what you expected it to be?

    Keep smiling.
    Charlotte

    1. Only saw your reply now, Charlotte. Thanks for answering my curiosity. For me, I wanted to write, and have written, since I could pick up a pencil at five. Then again, I remember writing in other lifetimes, which always seemed natural for me, albeit unnatural for my parents when I mentioned it!
I have seven books out. Each holds my interest until I’ve completed it. Later, as a reader only, I sometimes read them again.

      1. Thanks Ronald, I love to know where people draw their inspiration from to do the things they are passionate about. Seeing how people have succeeded after years of perseverance is encouraging as I know I have many years of training in front of me before I can hope to break through 🙂

        Best wishes
        Charlotte

      2. Call me, Ron, please. You know, it does take know-how and practice to accomplish your singing goals but, unless you think it so, it does not take time, as you have postulated in your reply. Why not consider taking the time out of it? Stay true to your purpose, practice and goals; stay on the purpose line to sing, and you may arrive sooner than you think! Let it be.

  14. Dear Charlotte,
Thanks for visiting and the follow! You have a very warm and friendly blog yourself, the light purple hue is very soothing. Lilac and lavender are two of my favorite scents and your blog reminds me of them. Combine that imagery with the sound of your lovely voice and it is heavenly. Good luck with all of your singing engagements.:)

  15. Best of luck with getting to Italy. I lived there for three years and loved every moment. I look so forward to following your travels and living vicariously through them. BTW, love your voice. Have you every sang anything from either of my names – which I was named from my grandmother and great aunt -not the operas. Though I do love them both, partial to Aida. Carmen Aida

    1. Hi there Carmen, I have not performed any of the songs from either of the two operas during my studies but I do know several songs from Carmen.

Best wishes and keep in touch
      Charlotte

      1. Hello Charlotte, how exciting to hear from you. I was just talking about you to my husband & sharing your wonderful voice w/ him. Please keep us all up to date on your performances.. I so envy you. Carmen is a beautiful opera… passionate arias. What pieces did you sing? I also am so envious for your angelic voice. What a blessing. I know you must work so hard.

  16. Thank you for visiting my blog. Good luck on your upcoming events. But if what I just heard was your voice you won’t need luck. You are truly a talented singer. CLG

  17. Thanks for visiting my blog. Opera is out of my league, but I appreciate that people express their creativity in any form. Good luck with your career.

  18. Hi Charlotte,
Thank you for reading my blog and I really loved hearing about your upcoming concert. I love music period and there is nothing better than the classics. I wish that perhaps someday I could see one of your concerts. Good luck and keep that voice healthy.
    Thanks, Carol from Canada.
PS. sure have to love the world wide web……. I get to meet people from all over the world without even leaving my house. Thank you.

    1. Hi Carol, Thanks for dropping by and you can be assured that if I ever get to perform in Canada I will most certainly let you know through my blog 🙂

Please come back when you can.
      Charlotte

  19. Many thanks for ‘liking’ my posts and for choosing to follow my blog. I hope you will continue to find it interesting. As a trained musician myself (though now retired) I shall follow your progress with great interest. From your recordings, you seem to have a strong, operatic style voice, and you certainly have the enthusiasm and energy to succeed. Good luck!

    1. Thanks Louis, I love to look through the blogs that I come across on my computer travels you meet such interesting people. I hope that you come back and visit when you can.

      Best wishes
      Charlotte

  20. Hi Charlotte
Lovely to meet you and to discover you’re performing in Tideswell, Derbyshire, the next county to me! Good Luck!

    1. Thanks for visiting and I can’t wait to perform with the choir, they are a great group of men and have been very supportive to me from my first festival performances 🙂

      Best wishes
      Charlotte

  21. Thank you for following my blog. I not a big fan of opera but if is good I love to listen to it.I have gotten to see Phantom and a few others and have enjoyed them a lot. Good luck on your singing.

    1. Hi There, I am a big believer that you don’t need to put music genres in to a box. If you like something then listen to it and enjoy the moment 🙂 Not all songs are for all people but everyone has a piece of classical music that they love even if they do not who composed it or where it comes from 🙂

Keep on enjoying life and taking the pictures 🙂
      Charlotte

  22. Thank you for looking at my photo blog, and for the follow! I wish you much success in your career. Anything in the arts is hard work but rewarding. Just putting yourself out there is a big step. You have a lovely voice. Good luck in your studies and performances!

    1. Hi Barbara, I agree in this new digital age artists from all disciplines need to find new and exiting ways to connect with the audience. The challenge is becoming “visible” to that audience in the first place 🙂

      Charlotte

  23. When I saw that you were following my blog and with a name like Heather I felt sure I had found another gardener. After browsing your blog I see you find your muse in another medium, but it’s so exciting to think that some day I might be able to say I knew you “when”. Keep up the good work and come back to my garden any time you want a little of nature’s inspiration.

    1. Hi Donna, my Mum wants to have the front of our garden at home completely re-worked and we were discussing what to do as we both love flowers. Unfortunately my Dad is not green fingered and as there is some heavy landscaping involved we will have to bring in a Landscape Gardner if we are to get the project off the ground 🙂

Please come back when you get a spare minute.
      Charlotte

    1. Thank Kateri, it will be a while until I am likely to get anything officially published but I hope that you continue to enjoy the songs that I post on my site 🙂

      Come back soon
      Charlotte

  24. Hi Charlotte, thanks for reading my blog and following me. I thought I’d return the favour. It’s interesting that you will be visiting Rochdale in August. I didn’t realise they’d know what opera was (I can say that – I’m a local!) If I’ve ever gone to see any classical music, it’s always been in Manchester, so it’s good that Rochdale’s getting a visit from you. Which venue will you be playing? Good luck with your tour. Sally

    1. Hi Sally, the concert is on the 28th August at St Mary in the Baum in Rochdale at 12;30 pm so if you are in the area I hope that you can drop in to listen.

Thanks and come back soon 🙂
      Charlotte

    1. Thank you Celia and I am glad that you enjoyed the performances. I appreciated the re-blog of my post on your site 🙂

I hope that you get back and visit again soon.
      Charlotte

  25. Good luck with fighting the cold! Your voice is beautiful. Good luck with the upcoming performances. (One side note: My last name is Macdonald and three of my Grandparents were born and raised in Scotland.) Keep up the good work.

    1. Thanks for coming over, luckily the cold is gone for now and I hope that it stays away for the Summer 🙂 It would appear from your blog that you finally got to “live your dream” and I wish you both every happiness in your retirement.

I hope that you find the time to drop by again soon.
      Best wishes

  26. Hi Charlotte, very nice to virtually meet you, lol. Thank you for stopping by, and for the follow. We have different forms of art, but it’s all so wonderful.
    Cristina

    1. Hi there and thanks for dropping by, I love spending time when I am at home doing craft projects with my Mum. I recently bought 3 deep picture frames from Ikea and loved filling them with ribbon flowers and glitter paper backgrounds. I will try and post a photograph of them when I back from Italy.
      Best wishes
      Charlotte

  27. Hi Charlotte, Thank you for following my blog. I’m very new to all of this “blogging” so I hope I can keep the content interesting for you to continue following 😉
Good luck with your pursuit of singing as a career.
    Norelle

    1. Hi Norelle, I am just learning too 🙂 I have found the whole experience of blogging great, you learn so much and get to meet loads of helpful and supportive people.

      Come back soon
      Charlotte

  28. Hi Charlotte, thanks for visiting my blog and for the follow. I love a wide variety of music. It’s nice that talented people like you do take time to visit other blogs of people with different talents and arts. I hope I’ll be able to share with you what talents I have and I wish you well on your future endeavours. Take care! 🙂

    1. Thanks for the lovely comment, I have always enjoyed crafting with textiles mostly and more recently paper crafting. It is a great way to let your creativity develop and let your ideas come to life. Enjoy your own crafting and keep in touch.

      Charlotte

  29. Hi Charlotte,
thank you for following me on my travel blog. I was brought up on a diet of classical music (still my favourite genre) and I dabble in singing but suffer too much from nerves to be able to perform in front of people. I hope you have a long and wonderful singing career.

    1. Thanks for dropping by and for your support. On your site you ask “Where will you journey to?” I think my journey is very much a creative one at the moment but I would like to think as I progress I will get to travel as I perform.

Best wishes and I hope that you come back again soon.
      Charlotte
