The Laird O’Cockpen

Saturday-22-02-2014

I have just got back in after spending a lovely weekend with my brother in London.  He thought that it would give me a break and a chance to catch up with what he has been up to since Christmas. I had a great time but my plane was delayed by an hour getting in to Glasgow airport ( that is the trouble when you have to find the cheapest flights ) , so tonight I am a little late with my post 🙂

I have chosen to share with you one of the songs that I performed in the Scots song competition that I entered at the RCS last November.  This version is from the recital that I performed in Southport on the 12th February 2014.  It is a Scottish folk song and it always makes me smile when I sing it 🙂 I hope that you enjoy it.

I have just checked Artist Signal  and I have discovered that with all your votes I have made it in to top 50, which is great news. Thanks to everyone that is voting and especially those of you have managed to vote several times as I really appreciate your continued support.

  1. Two marvelous works!

The inner focus exhibited in the RCS piece is amazing and then you top it off with an actor’s flair in The Laird O’cockpen. Being an opera singer truly requires multiple skills and talent. Bravo!

    1. Thank you, there are lots of skills taught at the conservatoire from the history of music, to composing and conducting, collaboration with other artists just to name a few. Slow and steady wins the race 😉

    1. Performance opportunities are fabulous whilst I’m training, the recital audiences are very supportive and generous with their applause. I like to critically review my videos afterwards too.

    1. Another push Janice over the next four days and I might get in the top 40 😉 last week I thought it would be amazing if I made the top 100 because I started a week late and although I could get Facebook likes, 6700 people have liked it, I was struggling to get the green vote button pressed 😉 and they’re what count.
It’s been very interesting, I’ll do a summing up post at the weekend 😉

    1. Thank you 😉 it’s been a blast and quite exciting in this final week, when my big brother told me I had no chance (he’s a trainee actuary and mathematician) I must admit a bit of me wanted just to prove him wrong lol – only joking Matt if you’re reading. If you have any siblings you’ll know what I mean 😉

    1. I was told that my songs were in the top 10 listened to by a lovely voter called Roy Lewis on Facebook so that’s cool 😉
Thanks for the repeat votes they’re what makes all the difference 😉

  2. What a lovely, and funny, song! 🙂 I love folksongs… be it swedish, british, scottish or irish, so this was a real treat. 🙂 I especially like your expressions. It gives the performance that little extra “oomph!”. 🙂

  3. I can see why that song makes you smile; I don’t think I could sing that with a straight face either. Actually, I wouldn’t even try. Silly songs are meant to be sung with a smile (and/or funny faces). 😀

  4. That is a beautiful interpretation and you are doing a wonderful job. Definitely I want to continue supporting your education and I will be voting for you as often as I can. Hourly if my schedule permits. I know every vote counts and you need a lot more votes.

    1. Thank you Gerardo you’ve been very supportive and it’s lovely you’ve joined my blog friends, I usually try to post twice each week to log my training and performance opportunities. The opera world was a complete mystery to me so in my own way I hope I can demystify it for my family and friends and give everyone an enjoyable read along the way 😉
Now you’ve found my blog don’t be a stranger.

  5. You sound very good and i wish you the best. The song was very spirited and i love your voice. You definitely have my vote.

    1. Eric thank you so much for all your votes on AS 😉 I think a lot of my Facebook followers think they’ve voted if they put a like on AS and I’ve discovered it’s all about the multiple voting and persuading other artists through their fans to vote for your work which I didn’t understand at first.
it’s a shame my 8,775 likes didn’t become voters but there’s another artist Luiz Antonio Bergonso #7 from Brazil who has over 30,334 likes!
It’s been a very interesting experience and I’ve learnt some great lessons.

    1. I feel like I move lots more when I’m singing but when I watch back I’m not so animated ;). Whether that’s good or bad I’m not sure. Glad you enjoyed it.
