Harmonie Messe by Haydn

Carnoustie-Church

On the 29th April, I will be returning to Scotland to perform with the Angus Choral Society at Carnoustie Church, Carnoustie at 7:30 pm.  The Musical Director, Norman Beedie asked me to join them for the evening to perform the soprano solos in the “Harmonie Messe” by Haydn.

The other singers joining me to perform the other solo parts of the mass are Thomas Kinch- Tenor, Stephanie Maitland- Mezzo Soprano, and Will Frost – Bass. The organist for the evening will be Graeme Stevenson and the Tayside Symphony Orchestra Winds & Friends will be providing the orchestral accompaniment.

The piece was written in 1802 and was Haydn’s last major work. The title of the mass “Harmonie” comes from German terminology due to the prominence of the wind ensemble in the mass.

I am looking forward to performing alongside the members of the Angus Choral Society and my old friends and colleagues from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in what should be a wonderful evening.

If you are in the area on the 29th April why not come along and join us, the tickets cost £10.00 and will be available on the door..

I would also like to pass on my thanks to all the people who asked about me following the awful attack on Westminster Bridge last Wednesday, 22nd April.  I am safe and well but my thoughts go out to all those that were touched by the day’s events, those that lost a loved one, or who are comforting those who were injured.

Finally, I would like to wish my Mum a happy Mother’s Day. I couldn’t be with her today due to rehearsal commitments but thankfully with the help of my iPad I managed to FaceTime her and spend a little time with her online.  I can’t wait to see her in a couple of weeks when I will get to travel home for a short break.

  1. Unfortunately, I can’t get anywhere near Scotland without a substantial cash outlay and a month’s forward planning, otherwise…

And may I say that is an exceptionally good photo they’re using to promote you?

  2. So pleased that you’re fine. I hope you’re exams went well. Hopefully I will be able to get to Carnoustie to hear you. Best wishes xx

    1. Thank you Darlene, it’s been lovely weather in London recently and I’ve enjoyed practising in the sunshine, there are some gorgeous views from the practise rooms.

  4. Congratulations on your invitation to perform – I know you’ll be a smash hit!!
The London attack was a travesty acted out by cowards. Our thoughts are with all the victims and their families.
Happy Mother’s Day to your mom. Any special plans?

    1. Thanks GP, all three of us facetimed Mum at the same time on Sunday morning, thank goodness for modern tech 😀 other than this year one of us has always been at home. We’d sent flowers and a fancy top which fit 😅. We are all going to be together over Easter only two and a half weeks to wait. My youngest brother heads off on a Geography field trip with his Uni tomorrow to Spain so that’s exciting. It’s lovely and sunny and bright today I just love the Spring. Keep well,
      All my best

      1. So glad to hear your family stays so connected with everyone’s career and interests splitting them up. Easter will be something all of you can look forward to! Your brother the very best on his trip to Spain. You have an outstanding week!!

  5. The Haydn is not a mass I know, but we are a long way off so can only wish you luck. I’m sorry you had to have that experience of London. We were in London last Wednesday for a funeral and the day remains very surreal. I am cheered by the solidarity shown by everyone since. London is brave city.

    1. It was a new mass for me which is always good to learn. I’m enjoying living in London, it’s very different. Hope you’re looking forward to Easter.

  6. Happy to hear you are safe. Congratulations on your performance. i am sure it will be wonderful. It looks like all that hard work training is paying off. Just curious. How much do you practice daily? Maybe you’ve said but I missed it.

    1. I pretty much sing every day even on holiday if only vocal warm ups. I put in a full working day everything from listening, note bashing on piano, translations, memorising music and songs, learning the operas, staging etc. I’ve gone up a gear on technique too which takes a lot of practice. I love it so it doesn’t feel like work.
      All my best Don,
      Charlotte
