The next stop on my musical adventure has been Buckinghamshire. I was invited to rehearse in this beautiful county by Arcadian Opera in order to prepare the role of Pamina for their production of The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte) by Mozart. This will be my role debut and I am thrilled to get the opportunity to explore this character’s quirks and traits and to portray her strength and frailty. I have had the pleasure of working with this company before in 2019 for their production of Romeo and Juliet and it is a delight to reunite with their fantastic creative team, their chorus, to reignite relatiionships with the re-visiting soloists, whilst meeting fantastic new colleagues.

    1. I didn’t have much energy left last night after rehearsals hehe. But I did start at 8 am adjudicating a competition at school. Life is too short not to max out 😊.

      My best wishes

  1. An interesting and important role, congratulations. There is a veteran American artist named P. Craig Russell who has an enthusiasm for opera and has created several graphic novel adaptations of famous operas, among them The Magic Flute which, many moons ago, I used to own. I don’t know if, or how easily it might be available nowadays, but it may be of interest to you at some point (if not soon enough to influence your portrayal of your new role). Your brother ought to know about Russell.

    1. Thank you, Martin, I hope you’re well it’s nearly birthday month for both of us 😊. A big thank you for directing me to those graphic novels, I use graphic drawings that Mum and I do in order to learn new songs and translations. I wish you still owned the comic now I’d love to see them on paper. I will speak to Thomas about Russell, Tom has taken up drawing again and is even trying his hand at digital drawing.

By the way did you see the Queen’s Gambit on Netflix I think you’d enjoy it.

  2. Such a great role—you will love singing it! I’m so happy for you. One of these days you will be in a performance that is streamed and your adoring fans on this side of the pond will be able to enjoy your singing in an actual production. Until then, toi, toi, toi!!

    1. Thank you, Peter, I hope you are correct. Digital was embraced by opera during the lockdown; it is whether things revert now or whether streaming is developed more.

  3. i watched an on-line performance of selections from Magic Flute earlier this year by a friend’s small opera company in Los Angeles. Pamina is superb role in a stellar work, wish I could blow my Magic Flute™ and be there! Alas, I couldn’t find any Magic Flutes currently for sale on the Internet.

    1. Haha, I wish you could be here too. It would be so cool to have all my blog friends in the audience, wouldn’t it!
