BambinO Tour – My Bags Are Packed And I Am Ready To Go !!

Whilst I was packing to get ready to start my Summer tour with Scottish Opera next week, I received a lovely email regarding a competition that I entered at the beginning of Summer. The email explained that I had won first prize in the over 23 years category in the IX Odin International Singing Competition, obtaining the highest overall mark for a singer this year. 

It was fabulous to read the judge’s comments as they had seen an improvement in my singing. This was great to read following all the hard work that I have been doing with my coaches over the last six months on the technical aspects of my singing.

I have included below one of the videos submitted for the competition which I hope you enjoy as much as the judges did.

    1. Thank you John, it’s a 418 miles mile drive, about 8 hours so I stopped off at my parents half way up to Scotland stayed over, and I’ll be on my way again today.

    1. My Dad says I’m like a swan Martin, not much movement as I appear to be gliding along but lots of action below the surface hehe. When I do a set of video recordings I like to enter them into good competitions to get feedback from experienced and expert judges before I use them for audition openers. I was awarded a masterclass from this competition when I came second and they always provide useful information for me. So during a period of intense technical training it is important to get various levels of judgement as well as teacher feedback.

    1. Thank you GP, as I said in my response to Martin above, these online competitions are excellent for feedback on audition videos that I have to rely on since covid to get auditions opening up. Lots of big competitions now are also doing first stage video entries rather than live auditions, personally I prefer live audition rounds.

    1. Thank you Mart. I have had a couple of excellent responses to these latest videos and a couple of “no they’re not good enough” yet, I especially like it when I get a set of written judgements from people I respect. It is very subjective singing, some judges like someone’s singing more than others do.

    1. Thank you Cindy. Six months concentrated technical classes seem to be going on the right track. Still lots to do but I was very pleased with the critique sheets from a couple of competitions I entered these into. I had a very interesting call yesterday from a second competition but I’m not counting my chickens until I hear more.

    1. Thank you Hilary. George and I worked hard to prepare these video recordings I was initially happy with them, however, I received some critiques that made me concerned about using them, so rather than not use them at all I entered them individually into international online competitions to get some feedback from people that don’t know me personally and more detailed information of any specific improvements required.

      I am working hard at the moment making some technical changes that I have been told are necessary to advance so the feedback is very useful, I also received a masterclass from this competition and the teacher was wonderful.

    1. Thank you Herman, as I said to Martin and Annette, the feedback and extra training I get from these online competitions is quite important at the moment. Covid has been a very restrictive time for performers and it is good to stay sharp.

    1. Thank you Sheila, you are right it is sometimes a thankless task to be working hard without a performance at the end of it. I’m very grateful for these online competitions during covid. I’ve just signed another contract for an opera next year and I’ve received a couple of e-mails to prepare for audition season opening this year which I couldn’t attend last year because I was away from September to November.

    1. Hi Jovina, my lovely landlady has offered to cook me a hot meal when I arrive tonight. I am really looking forward to it as the journey has been quite tense and taken a lot longerthan expected due to traffic problems.     1. I‘m with a great crew, rehearsal are going well, we‘ve got real babies in rehearsal tomorrow so looking forward to that after so long. The shows start soon. I‘m going to see a Scottish Opera performance of Candide tonight, I‘ll be wanting to jump up and sing with Cunegonde it was one of my favourite roles hehe.
