Gothic Opera – Double Bill

Grab your Eye of Newt and Toe of Frog and join me this Halloween as I participate in Gothic Opera’s supernatural double bill at the Round Chapel, 1D Glenarm Road, London, E5 0LY.

Each evening we will present two short operas, including Le Loup-garou (The Werewolf) and Le Dernier Sorcier (The Last Sorcerer). The operas were written by female composers in the 19th Century. Louise Bertin wrote Le Loup-garou and Pauline Viardot composed Le dernier sorcier. Neither have been performed in the UK before, so it is exciting to take part in their UK premiere.

Both Operas share themes of the supernatural and sinister fairy tales. I invite you to grab your broomstick and enjoy a musical evening, where together we can celebrate these two neglected operas whilst sharing a spooky new experience this Halloween.

There will be five performances :

  • Thursday 27th October 7:30 pm
  • Friday 28th October 7:30 pm
  • Saturday 29th October 7:30 pm
  • Monday 31st October 7:30 pm

    1. Wow, I would love to attend to see you perform, Charlotte, but it’s a bit of a drive! Best wishes for your next performance. 🙏🏻❤️🇬🇧

      1. I’m looking forward to seeing the project develop, I’m covering another role so lots to do in the next couple of weeks.
        Best wishes to you John,

      1. Thank you for reading 🙂 It’s nice to be singing in French, the last time I was Frasquita in Carmen in Germany so I had to get out all my exercise books again.

    2. Wonderful lead photo. I like how the color of your sneakers and hummingbirds on you blouse fit in with the colors of the headstone. Both operas sound like a lot of fun, and it’s very special for you to be part of the first performance in the UK.

      1. First rehearsal today Timothy, I’m with a great group of people, I’ve worked with a couple of the guys before so it was fab to see them again.

      1. Two weeks ago I might have agreed with you, how on earth am I going to remember all these hehe. Its just practice, writing out the words and translations, listening to my recordings of me saying the words. Rehearsals started today.

      1. I think women like Kaija Saariaho have made major breakthroughs and Unsuk Chin, I was at the RCM with an upcoming composer called Lara Poe. If the female composers are good they will break through now at least I hope that female musicians are starting to be considered equal 😊.

      1. Oui, I’ve been practicing my french language for a couple of weeks solid now. It’s been a while but it came back to me. Thank you. Merci.

      1. My brother loves halloween, I’m going to persuade him and some of his friends to fit our show into their celebrations, 🤞🏻.

      1. There weren’t Brian, but there are more now I studied one called Kaija Saariaho a Finnish composer who is based in Paris for my Women in Music module. I think as more women have taken on external work in most occupations the numbers have increased.

        1. It’s both a slow and incredibly fast process. Let us remember Oxford did not grant degrees to women until 1920. A century. Some are trying to put stumbling blocks along the road still, but it’s been a century of remarkable progress.
          Keep fighting. 😉

    3. I’d love to see this!
Also, I find it exciting that you are in the UK debut, AND that women wrote both.
      You must be thrilled!

Sew… (being funny) I’m working away on the bodice. It’s slow going. It’s always slow at the beginning, but this time I’m working with sequins (slows things down) and I’m making it to fit you.
I need to get lining for the bodice. Hopefully that will happen this weekend.
AND I now have 2 skirt options. I won’t make a final decision until the bodice is complete.

On I go! The further I get into the gown, the faster the process goes.

      Have a fab weekend, Charlotte!

      1. I wish I could see your smiling face in the audience as having friends in the audience always makes the occasion a little more special.

Your dress project sounds amazing and I cant wait to see what you have been doing. 🙂

Best wishes & and have an amazing weekend
        Charlotte xx

        1. One day, I hope.
I wish you would get a part in an opera in Toronto!
Looks like Wednesday for the lining. I want a certain type, and have to get it a few miles from here. I street car. No biggie!
          xxoo
