Mother’s Day

Mothers-Day-580-02

My Mum is rather splendid she is always telling me to “Make The Commitment To The Real You”.

I can count on her to pick me up when I am down, support me when I am busy and help me to land after flying high. Today in the UK it is Mother’s Day I want to thank her for being so special and to share with you some of the guidance that I am lucky enough to receive from her every day 🙂

This year I have had the opportunity to make decisions about my training and consider my options at each crossroads that I have encountered. It has been one of my busiest years so far with so much still to do, building towards a climatic end of year. But I know that I would not be able to stand on my two feet so confidently, smiling and excited for the tasks ahead without the amazing help of my Mum.

Mothers-Day-960

There are many times when each of us needs the help of others, they help us to trust in ourselves and commit to the journey we are each on. At times when we question our abilities it is important to ask, or receive help through positive encouragement whether this is through reading inspirational quotes, listening to suggested Ted Talks, watching motivational videos or films about American sports stars (my dad’s personal favourite ). But for me I have my mum. She has always had my back and gives me strength daily to strive to be the person I want to be.

I remember talking to her about the changes to the development of my personal singing training and the frustrations I felt. My mum asked me to research the growth of a bamboo tree, and she sent me this amazing video:

If you can then I recommend that you to watch it in its entirety, or save it for a day when you need a little positive nudge.  For me, it reminds me that I have the power to fulfil my dream.  If I take the time now then over the next several years I can nurture myself, train hard to enable me to grow and flourish. It takes patience and persistence. I am up for the challenge and I thank my mum every day for encouraging me to take on each challenge, supporting me to achieve my goals and always being there for me every step of my journey.

But I ask you:

‘Are you up for the challenge, to commit to the real you?’

Life is way too short. I miss my mother every day since she passed about 12 years ago. Mothers are precious!

Blessings to you, Charlotte, with your career and much success wished for you. xo

    1. Thank you Janice I love the final message in your new children’s book: “It doesn’t matter who or what you are, we all have feelings and we should be kind and always keep other’s feelings in mind”. Sounds like the sort of thing my Mum would say.

      Best wishes

  5. One of my favorite painters is Matisse. One of the reasons he is such a favorite is that when he was in his early seventies, he was forced to bed with cancer. Rather than do nothing, he began a series of cutouts called decoupages. The wonderful thing about creative people is that we never ever retire. We are constantly imaging how we can make the world more alive, more beautiful and more more.

    1. I do decoupages Don on the cards I make for thank you and birthday cards, this is so true it doesn’t feel like work when you are doing things you enjoy.

  6. This was such a touching post Charlotte! I enjoyed it all. And the video I did watch it all! Great message there.Thank you for sharing. Have a wonderful week!❀❀❀❀❀

  7. A very lovely tribute to your mother. I’m sure she’s very proud of what you’re accomplishing.

RE your last post, I came across a review of a book about Schubert which began:

“Truly,” Beethoven remarked in 1827, “in Schubert there dwells a divine spark.” After listening to your performance, I’m inclined to agree with Ludwig Van. 🙂

  8. Truly lovely. And I love the pictures—you’ve always had the same smile! Thank you for sharing something so personal with us.

  9. Your tribute to your mother (and father) really shows how she has given you a solid foundation in your life to be yourself and to pursue your dreams. I love the pics too! Especially the one in the top right corner. One child appears to be quite the ham of the family!

    Have a good week!

    1. My little brother’s face is the best laugh, goodness knows what was wrong with him but he’s cross I see that crossed arm thing now too 🙂 I want to know if I can get those gold trousers big size too.

      1. Those gold pants are spectacular too! I just noticed how long your moms hair is too. Cool she never went through that stage where she cut it off forever like most women seem to do right after having children.

    1. Sometimes I don’t think I could manage everything without them. My Dad even arranged an electrician for me last week because I didn’t have the time, and when Mum came to visit the other weekend she did all my clothes washing, cleaned the entire kitchen out and got me a few days food shopping.

  10. A wonderful Mother’s Day post. I enjoyed the video too. I wasn’t able to fulfill my dreams for many reasons so I am trying to be as encouraging as possible to my daughters. Even if you fail that is better than not having tried at all.

    1. That is so true Clare; I recover from fails because that message is reinforced all the time, better to fail than never to try, even if people laugh and make fun of you for giving it a go.

      1. I really dislike those sneering people who are happy to laugh at others trying to succeed at something but won’t dare to do it themselves. What dull and lifeless people they are if they but knew it. I think you’re marvellous, my dear. Keep doing what you’re doing and I wish you all the success in the world.

  11. Your mother sounds a lot like mine, Charlotte. I could never have reached where I am in life without my mum, either. Sometimes I have trouble “committing to the real me,” because it makes me feel like I’m rebelling against the norm, or getting an inflated ego, or something strange like that. But my Mom always reminds me that I am an individual, with my own personality, and that there is a way to be me and reach my full potential and still always consider the people around me and follow the normal rules of everyday life. That’s what she does!

Isn’t it wonderful that we have a day to specially celebrate them? I know I’m thankful for my mum every day–but there is something so nice in getting “time off,” so to speak, from everything else to just focus on how wonderful one of the most important people in your life is!

All the best to you (and your mum),

    Cate

  12. Lovely! I enjoyed your Gretchen on Youtube and I’ll visit again for the other lieder.

Interesting tidbit: Goethe’s Marguerite, who was the basis for Schubert’s song, was also the inspiration for Hetty in George Eliot’s ‘Adam Bede’. I was in the audience of Gunoud’s ‘Faust’ a short time after reading the novel. The similarities were striking but the different treatment of characters was also striking. Both Faust and Marguerite are archetypical whilst Eliot’s characters are all too human.
If you don’t mind I’ll leave my favorite version of Gretchen am Spinnerade. (Probably you know it but I didn’t want to risk that you don’t.)

The pianist on this recording, Jorg Demus will be in Hong Kong next week and I will miss him because I am going to the HK International Film Festival instead. Really?

      1. You are very welcome and I look forward to following your career as a sensitive and thoughtful artist. Best of success.

    1. Sometimes when I’m really busy and wrapped up in what I’m doing I forget to say thank you for all the little things, don’t tell them that it’ll go to their heads lol.
      Best wishes
