The Magic Flute – Roxburgh Hall Theatre

I had a real hoot performing with Arcadian Opera in their production of “The Magic Flute”. It was so much fun to be back on the stage of an indoor theatre – making entrances through the wings, singing with the fantastic orchestra, and feeling the warmth of stage lights on my face. The entire company were a delight to work with, Great Singers, Chorus, dancers, and orchestra. Everyone passionately gave their all on and offstage. This atmosphere was encouraged by Ali and Justin, who put so much love and attention into each production. I was mesmerised by the transformative skills of the artwork by Toby Marshall, his illustrations were projected onto a screen behind the action bringing the magical realm to life. I had a lot of fun exploring the role of Pamina, a character that I would love to revisit and develop her multi-faceted traits in the future. Big thanks to everyone that came to watch and all in the show. It was a special thing.

    1. thank you John, I’ve been none stop since I got home, washing clothes and putting them all away in vacuum bags and getting all my winter clothes out, the dip in temperature has been quite marked since the clocked went back.

    1. We had great feedback and I loved performing the full Pamina role, I had done a ‘Bit of The Magic Flute’ with Scottish Opera on tour so it was a great intro to the role for the big stage.

    1. I like to sing the Queen’s main aria too, Katherine was brilliant in the show she has done the role before and her experience showed. Just stunning.

    1. The screens are very useful for smaller opera companies Don although they can cause problems for the lighting technicians. It was great to sing with an orchestra indoors, just super.

    1. Sorry for the tardy reply Maria, I hope that you are well. I have four projects on the go at the same time at the moment so I missed my brother’s annual halloween party sadly, I hope you had a happy Samhain.

  1. You clearly reveled in this production, Charlotte. And I can imagine it was so nice to be inside – Scotland can be windy and rainy and chilly for outside performance!

    1. We were very lucky with this summer’s tour in Scotland because some summers are very cold and wet and the weather was mainly fine. As you say though it was good to see people brave a theatre and try to get some semblance of normality.

  2. Very strategic to have broken role and put the gentleman between yourself and those three ladies who have not. Stark and subtle dynamic tensions in the first photo. Amazing costumes and your lovely dress.

    1. Thank you, I wonder if that went through the photographers mind. They were great costumes I even had pink shoes.

  3. WONDERFUL!
After a season of Pop Up Opera, you are back inside, on a stage.
The costumes look fabulous. I keep looking over them again & again.
Honestly, Charlotte, yours is the best!

    1. When I first saw it I thought boy that’s lot of pink, and as you know I love pink, I even had pink shoes to match! My Mum said she immediately thought candy floss when she saw me. I do love a good costume.

  4. From your photos, this sure is a colourful and fun production! Glad you’d a great time starring in it. Congrats, Charlotte! 🙂

    1. Thank you Arti, it is quite a come down after a three week intense run like this away from home. I’ve been running around like a mad thing all the week catching up on all my jobs now I’m home.
