Today, I’m thrilled to share with you a piece that’s very close to my heart – Giuseppe Verdi’s enchanting aria Sul Fil D’un Soffio Etesio from his comedic masterpiece, Falstaff. This aria, sung by the character Nannetta, is a beautiful portrayal of youthful innocence and whimsical charm.
Performing this piece was like stepping into a dream. Nannetta’s character, brimming with youthful energy and a touch of mischief, required me to tap into a lighter, more playful side of my vocal expression. The aria’s delicate melody and ethereal lyrics, depicting the gentle blowing of a spring breeze, demanded a vocal finesse and a soft, yet articulate delivery.
As I immersed myself in the character of Nannetta, I found a delightful challenge in balancing the technical precision this piece demands with the emotional depth it deserves. Every note had to be like a soft petal carried by the wind, and every phrase had to evoke the purity and freshness of a spring day.
The experience of performing “Sul Fil D’un Soffio Etesio” was not only a vocal journey but also a personal one. It reminded me of the joy and spontaneity that music can bring into our lives. It’s a piece that celebrates the simplicity and beauty of nature, something that we often overlook in our busy lives.
I’m excited to share a video of it. I hope watching it brings you as much joy as I felt performing it.
Thank you for joining me on this musical adventure. I can’t wait to share more with you in the future. Until then, keep listening to the whispers of the spring breeze in your own life!

Charming indeed. Wonderful performance, Charlotte.
Recently, a few bars of this kept going round and round in my head, but without the words, and I was going crazy trying to remember where it was from. Thanks for reminding me.
(This happens to me occasionally. Last year it was the melody that Gretel sings when she first sees the Gingerbread House in Humperdinck’s Hänsel and Gretel.)
I enjoyed this piece very much, Charlotte. Soft, beautiful, expressive and precise!

What can I say, Charlotte? I’ve run out of outstanding comments for you and your talents after all these years!! You are a treasure.
Wow! Great song in the video!
Lucky you! ‘Falstaff’ is one any short list of greatest operas ever, IMHO. This is an opera that I will always see when I have the opportunity. I never get tired of its sparkling and evanescent beauties. And Nanetta of course is an ideal role for young singers, both for the beauty of the music and the beauty of the character. I loved hearing you sing this, especially the floated high notes, and I hope you will be able to sing the whole role soon! (One tiny bit of advice: Nanetta is not performing. Everything she does is natural to her; relax as much as possible to make every motion natural and unforced.)
Thank you Peter, I appreciate your advice.
