I’m Getting My Sparkle Back

Thank you for all your lovely comments, messages and prayers. Wow what a week! I feel much better today, the old sparkles coming back. I can talk again now without sounding like I have marbles in my mouth.

I was talking to my Mum on Saturday morning on Facetime and she said my face and neck looked swollen. I told her I had trouble swallowing so she told me to phone the NHS direct line and ask for advice because it was hurting to drink. They told me to go to the emergency doctor’s clinic and made me an appointment. The GP said there was an abscess and she wanted to get it lanced so booked me in to the infirmary. All of my friends were in Edinburgh at the Marie Currie Concert so I booked myself a taxi. About 5pm they found they couldn’t lance the abscess and wanted to keep me in overnight. My friends; Rob packed me a case and Jess, Beth, George and Davidona arrived after the concert but they’d only let two of them visit which was for the best. I thought I was going to be out on Sunday but they decided to keep me in hospital another day to do some blood tests as a precaution.

I met a lovely nurse called Elizabeth, she was fabulous and very caring and she told the doctor I’d been a good girl all day Monday so that I could leave. On Monday afternoon my friends George and Emma came to collect me, thank you. I have some marvellous friends in Glasgow and the lovely Pittcock family that came to check on me without asking, Olga I hope you washed your hands after plaiting my hair that was very daring 😉 thank you all. Jess and George kept my Mum informed and visited me as regularly as visiting hours allowed, even though Jess is a singer and I’d told her not to.

One piece of good news was that my younger brother passed his driving theory test first time at the weekend. Friends of our family looked after my brother and got him from and to college and my Mum and Dad came up to Glasgow early on Tuesday morning to bring me home on the Wednesday when I was a bit better for traveling. Mum took one look at me and promptly sent me to bed, after telling me off about my messy bedroom! I woke up three hours later to the sound of the vacuum and a steam mop! I had a big drink of water and pulled the quilt back over my head. I woke up again to the smell of one of my favourite meals cooking, beef stroganoff with new potatoes and vegetables.

On Wednesday I had a lovely surprise, for Christmas my parents had ordered me a glitter sparkle wall makeover to be fitted on the day I normally have no lectures.  It is the best present ever!

Ta Dah!

I’m home in Cheshire now feeling much better today.  I’ve been making lots of plans.  I’ve got some new French songs to learn and I’m going to work on a new composition whilst I feel like this because I’ve never felt so poorly and drained ever and I best capture my emotions (not about being ill that’s over with) in verse.

      1. You are very welcome, It is a total pleasure listening to you and your music. Long may you continue to bring joy to all of us. Best wishes Mike x

  2. So pleased to hear you’re feeling better. Try to take it easy until you’re completely well – as a veteran of throat infections/ tonsillitis I know how easy it is for it to come back if you try to do too much too soon.

    1. Thanks Alisa, the photo doesn’t do it justice it’s like a mermaids tail colour.

My parents picked me up to remove temptation, mind you I can’t sing at the moment even if I wanted to. I had to cancel a fabulous opportunity my friend Ross offered me to sing with an orchestra on Sunday 15th I handed it over to one of my best friends :/ and I’ve missed two Les Sirenes choir performances of material we’d worked on this year!

      1. This is an animated film. A young vampire who live with her Dad away from humans. In its 18 years, the family arrives monster and a human who is lost, it is very cute, funny and beautiful film about acceptance of difference.

      2. Hi Pascal, my brother had the film in his collection and i watched it today. It was very funny, I could imagine that my Dad would be just like the “Count” if Mum did not keep him in line 🙂

  3. So happy you are on the mend! Rest that beautiful voice of yours. I know how hard it must be not to sing. I have two musicians at home here and there’s been no singing because they too have been sick. I haven’t been blogging because of so much going on here. But I am glad I popped on to see your post! Feel better dear and sending you a long distance hug and get well vibes! ✽ ✾ ✿ ❀ ❁ ❃ ❋

    1. Hugs to you to Koko, I must practise my piano next week, a fabulous piano teacher told me recently it’s a good thing I sing so good because my piano isn’t a backup lol
Best wishes to you and your family this Christmas

And I think you ‘selfie’ with the monkey is a good one!

    1. I’ve never been in hospital before. I’m sorry to hear you have people close to you in hospital it’s not good. I sent the pics to my parents to reassure them and get a bit of sympathy for the butterfly drip lol. It’s the drama queen in me ;). I’ve got bruises in my hands and arms that’s always good for a bit of sympathy too – lol.

    1. How lovely thank you. My parents know there’s only so many white walls I can stand and I made such a mess rolling glitter glue paint on the walls they said it was a present I could enjoy for at least the next three years. I’m going to make a collage out of all the scraps too.
Best wishes lovely to hear from you

      1. When my daughter was 5 (30 years ago) I bought her a small bottle of glitter and glue…………then another, and a larger bottle, then a five pound bag….then every color of glitter ever made. everything sparkled, some things still do. Now my grand daughter is five. I bought her a small bottle of glitter and glue………………….

      2. yes, several of my favorite studio items have their own jewelry. Then glitter stickers, glow in the dark stars. I don’t think there is one corner of the house that doesn’t give a glimpses of glitter and jewels and joyful memories. It is fun to see others have glitter eye-zed their world.

  6. Glad to see you back on your feet, I had an attack of severe tonsillitis decades ago and never want to repeat it. Your wall looks great and you look like a Christmas pixie in front of it! Take your time getting better as you don’t want a repeat performance, lol!

  7. Take it from someone that performed for many years, get your rest and you’ll come back even stronger. Use the time to read, write and enjoy the Holidays! It’s the most wonderful time of the year!!!

    1. Thanks for the reassuring words Jeffrey, it’s a shame the GP couldn’t fit me in for a visit on the Thursday morning when I called because it might not have got such a grip on me because I wasn’t too bad on Wednesday.

I need to learn some French in the holidays, so lots of listening and translating that should keep me occupied.

  8. Hi, lovely to read your post and to know that you are out of hospital and are back home now. Hope you have a good rest meanwhile and recover well. Have a blessed Christmas with your family, Charlotte.

  9. Your favourite food is beef stroganoff? It’s mine too! xD Though I preffer to eat it with rice instead of potatoes. 🙂 But I’m sure your way is yummy too. 🙂 I’m glad you’re feeling better. Still sending positive energy your way. 🙂

    1. Hi Lizzi, I thought I’d replied to your message earlier it mustn’t have gone through? Thank you for all your helpful advice, hugs to you too, guess I should book Christmas concerts in the Southern Hemisphere lol.

  10. Glad you are feeling better. Please listen to your mom and rest, we wouldn’t want your sparkle to fizzle. Hope you have a dazzling day. 😀

    1. Hi Colleen, I was fizzling I must admit I don’t like feeling helpless. It’s great to be home and not to have to think about cooking, cleaning or anything really 😉

    1. Cheers Jim, I had a proper chuckle reading about your first day at University, you would have won that comp. You should have seen how much stuff I took to my first lodgings we hadn’t realised I was eight flight of stairs up with no lift.

    1. Hi Uncle Spike, it’s good to be back in the land of the living.

Cousin Spike would love Mum’s new neighbours Christmas decorations I took a photo last night they are so fab, my Mums still recovering that someone could get so many lights in such a small space 😉 lol. You can tell I’ve not been at home there’s not one bauble up yet!

Thanks for your lovely messages 😉

      1. We have nothing here of course, but at New Year we have a couple of lights up too. Kiddo saw lights on the Simpsons and wondered what it was, lol

    2. Hi Uncle Spike, I will send you a picture of our neighbours house, it is like Santa’s Groto “Gang Nam Style” But it is so me LOL. I must check out the e-mail page on my site as I have not seen a message from you. My e-mail address is enquiries@charlotte-hoather.com if you ever need it.

On the topic of “Bowling Balls” my Mum and Dad used to play Ten Pin Bowling and I was only allowed to polish their bowling balls.as they were too heavy for me to use.

    1. I first saw this type of sparkle wall in the ladies toilet of a pub/restaurant called The Swan with Two Necks it is silver sparkle! I dragged my Mum and my Nan in there to take a look what a waste far too nice for the loo. When it was on I looked around the room and thought a different sparkle colour on each of the four walls would look fabulous LOL!

  12. Well. Young lady. Don’t ever scare us like that again.

Now make sure that the next time you ask for a horse for Christmas, that Santa knows you’re not spelling it, “hoarse”. Better yet. Just ask for a pony.

    1. Cheers Lorrie, if my brother comes on Wednesday he’s a fabulous baker, he recently won his round of the Bake Off at work with a “Jaffa Cake” cake we’ll have to try out your Christmas cookie recipe.

  13. Happy to hear you are feeling better. You are a lucky girl to have some great friends, especially being far from family. I know your mum must have been worried sick.

    1. Hi Noony, I got seen quite quickly when I first went to the emergency doctor so I thought it would be the same when I got to the hospital so I told a couple of my friends I’d be fine coping on my own because it’s really boring for people just sitting around, however four hours later with a banging headache I was wishing I hadn’t been saying “I’ll be fine, don’t worry” 😉 I figured I’d just get the abscess popped and get back home. Then I thought I’d be in one night at the most! LOL

Mum still is worried, trying to work out if I’ve been looking after myself! I’ve had about five lectures about eating more green vegetables, cleaning my flat more, gargling and on and on ;).

  14. So pleased that you’re home and on the mend, there’s no place like home when you’re not feeling well. Equally, it’s always good to taste Mum’s home cooking.

Take care, get plenty of rest and we’ll speak soon.

    Lots of love,

    Dennis and Helen xxx

    1. Hi you two 🙂 Dad’s the big chef and Mum’s the casserole queen, she’s given me some great recipes for just sticking in the slow cooker or oven and leaving to cook by itself; shame I don’t take after Dad’s side of the family most of the men are chefs 😉 I think we’re having chicken, broccoli and mash with a white wine sauce tonight (they have to leave out the mushrooms for me).

I am resting don’t have much energy for anything else.

    1. Hi Linda, if it is making the rounds I do hope that it dies out quickly as it was a particularly nasty little bug. I am usually quite resilient but this one really took hold of me quite quickly. But I am definitely on the mend and enjoying some family time 🙂

      Have a great weekend
