What a whirlwind of a day yesterday at the beautiful Gawsworth Hall Theatre. This beautiful ancient Cheshire Manor House with its Tudor courtyard forms the backdrop for the venue. Fortunately the Grandstand and performers areas are covered and protected from most of the elements; however it rained throughout the rehearsals as we caught the tail end of hurricane Bertha 🙁
I began my day at 8am by having a good breakfast following which a skilled hairdresser looped my hair and pinned it into place ready for the performance that night.
This month I’d discovered that a friend from Tap class and High School had qualified as a beautician; Daniella is now working freelance and building her own business which I really admire. I hardly ever wear much makeup, usually only for stage work, or for special occasions, so consequently I’m not very experienced. I usually end up getting mascara all up my eyelids and if I’ve already put eye shadow on that’s a bit annoying, blending powders and not getting a chin line is a skill I’m still mastering and let’s not mention my attempts at eye liner! So I took the opportunity to have a master-class from Danielle ready for the performance, great fun and lovely to catch up.
You all know by now that I have a wonderful amount of support from my family and friends, yesterday my parents drove me to the event for 1pm for a meeting and full cast rehearsals. I got the opportunity to rehearse my first act songs, ‘Think of Me’ and ‘Wishing you were Somehow Here Again’ from the Phantom of the Opera with Christopher Ellis and Derrick McGill ( Des ) who provided atmospheric accompaniment including timpani, trills and skills. My brother Tom said that they added so much to the songs and he was really impressed.

Then good fortune shone down on us,the rain cleared up just before the performance, and although it was still quite windy the skies stayed that way until the end of the show. On the way home the rain poured down for the entire journey with the roads flooding.
I loved that despite the weather people still brought their gazebos and enjoyed their picnics overlooking the beautiful lake, we’re hardy souls us Brits. 🙂
Click through to see Tideswell Male Voice Choir’s next events or you can see photos from last night on their Facebook page .
My next shows with the choir are on 8th November at The Pomegranate Theatre, Chesterfield, Derbyshire and 9th November 2014 at Buxton Opera House: ‘Never Forget’ A Remembrance Spectacular. Tickets
That dress is the best yet; looks stunning on ya kiddo 🙂
Dunno about the Batgirl cape though…
It was my Mums idea, I was reluctant at first, I think she’s got a hint of the drama queen hidden 🙂 haha to be honest it was so cold I was glad to have it to huddle in.

Some wonderful photographs of you – you look lovely. I’m sorry the weather was so awful and you were cold. It can’t be easy to sing when you are shivering! However, I am pleased you had a good audience.
It was a fabulous audience, I think the adrenaline heats me up 🙂

You always look good, but the looped hair style really suits you. I’m glad you had such a good time.
Thanks Terry, I’m experimenting with different styles, I think I can do this myself with a bit of practise, I just love performing.

You look wonderful! Sure would love to attend the concert. I’m sure it went well and congrats to you! On another note, remember we were talking about Pavel Kolesnikov, the up and coming concert pianist, well, he’s coming back to our City (where he won the 2012 Honens Int. Piano Competition) and playing in a free concert! And guess what, I won’t be here that week 🙁 since I’ll be in Toronto attending the Film Festival there. Here’s the link to Pavel’s open air concert.
Awesome! Congratulations Charlotte:)
Thank you Ramesh 🙂

Thanks Arti, is the weather still good in Calgary in September or is it covered like Gawsworth? Sad you can’t make it I would love to read your review but the film festival sounds exciting.

It is interesting by just simply putting on the cloak can make different to put mood on with the performing (although the same dress under). I like it.
Christine is in a graveyard for Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again and the cloak put me in just the right mood for that song.

Like being there only not as cold. You looked great.
He he thanks John, I had my Mums rain mac for Les Mis. but it was too clean and modern looking and I didn’t think it would dry if I dropped it in a muddy puddle 🙂

You look amazing. I’m glad the concert went well despite the weather. Really enjoy reading about your journey. Thank you for sharing.
It was amazing really that the rain broke so everyone could get to their seats dry, stayed dry throughout the performance and remained that way until everyone was on their way home.

Wonderful blog post as always! You look incredibly professional on stage, your presence is amazing. Congrats on another wonderful achievement 🙂
Thank you for your lovely comment, it is such a nice venue and group of people to work with each year. Dennis and Helen are like family and I always enjoy it.

Never mind the audience, Charlotte. WE love you, and its a pleasure and honour to be singing with such talent. Only problem is that we only get the rear view.
Hi Eric hehe 🙂
You all did a wonderful show, it was the first time I heard your Bui Doi with Erin and you all sang it lovely. As for the rear view most guys don’t mind ha ha 😀 and you got the best view of my hair-do.

Ahhh thanks Barbara, I hope Jean enjoyed it I only caught her for a brief moment at the end of the concert :).
All the best

You look fabulous as always. Glad there was a good turn-out. And that’s really great that your family comes to see you perform. My folks usually try to come to as many of my shows as they can, and it always means a lot to me.
Hi Stephanie, thanks. It’s so lovely to look out into a full grandstand. I think there were nine or ten in the family posse this time because it’s a local venue so that’s fab it means a lot to me too.

I’d love to hear you sing live one day 🙂
Wow you look stunning! It sounds like an amazing day. I hope life takes you around the world to Melbourne to sing for us soon 🙂
You look great. Wow!
Looks like a beautiful location – and love your dress!
My husband and I had a similarly chilly evening last Friday, watching Russell Watson perform at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich. Was great, but I think the rain that came down in the final 10 minutes did rather dampen people’s enthusiasm for the encore…
I was talking to a friend from Australia the other evening and she said that our enthusiasm for outdoor events in all weathers was perhaps the thing she most admired about the British!
My brother lives near the Naval College such a beautiful setting. When I was in Italy I loved the way they set up chairs and a stage in the street and just had evening entertainment for families to enjoy together in their community.
Lovely to hear from you, hope you’re well 🙂
