One thing that I have learnt over the past three years as a performance student is the importance of keeping a diary 🙂    I work hard to try and stay organised as we have to juggle our studies with performance opportunities.  Some we take part in through College and some we find ourselves externally, they are such an important part of our development as they provide us with the chance to connect with an audience.

Last June I was asked by my old singing teacher, Jayne Wilson who taught me at high school to take part in a production of “Madama Butterfly” for Bowdon Festival Opera.  I had a fantastic time with everyone involved and was thrilled to be invited back to take part in their production of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” next year.  I have been asked to take on the role of Zerlina which is a fabulous way for me to start summer 2016.

To help raise the money needed by  the organisers to put on the production they will be holding a gala fundraiser on Saturday 24th October and I will be joining other soloists to provide an enchanting evening of opera arias.  I will be performing arias from “Hansel and Gretel” from the role that I performed whilst in Italy this summer.

I am looking forward to the evening as I get to sing alongside some brilliant performers and as a bonus I get to spend the weekend with my Mum and Dad 🙂

    1. Thank you, if I hadn’t met Jayne when I did I wouldn’t have come into contact with classical music and I’m happy that she has given me this opportunity to show her how I’m progressing.

  1. Oh my gosh, what fun this promises to be. The night before my birthday, so I shall imagine myself there! Have fun.

  2. Congratulations, Charlotte! Good luck and have fun! Wish I could be there (wish I could be singing at something like that myself, too . . .:-))

    Best regards,

  3. And reasonably local for me as well. Sadly, though, I shalln’t be able to make it, Charlotte, but I’m sure it will be a great night for you. And your audience too, naturally!

  4. Congratulations, Charlotte! That is quite a compliment when your teacher asks you to perform! You are one very talented young lady! Best wishes for a wonderful show! Xo

  5. Charlotte, that looks like a lot of fun. Hopefully a lot of money will be raised for funding the summer performances. Great to hear that your Mom and Dad will be there too.

    1. Yes I hope so too. These productions are expensive to put on, with a small orchestra, conductor, rehearsals to prepare, and last year there were costumes rented. They always come to watch me when they can they’re my biggest critics lol.

    1. Thanks Clare, it’s so important to me that people like the Bowdon Festival bring opera close to people who love the music and those who don’t normally attend the big opera houses, often when people get a taste they start to enjoy the music maybe for the first time and it’s very valuable for me during my training to have this chance to perform.

      1. Yes, I agree with you. So many people are put off opera because they think it is difficult to understand, or it’s too high-brow or the tickets are too expensive. It is an excellent chance for you to perform and gain experience. My very best wishes, Clare xx

  6. I always think Don Giovanni is the perfect opera to recommend to someone who hasn’t been to the opera before. It’s got everything – including that gorgeous duet you’ll be singing with the beastly Don

    1. I agree, I’ve been watching different productions and I already started on the arias so it’ll be exciting for me to see how this sort of production goes.

  7. Preparing for Zerlina? You always identify with the characters you play, you’ll shine again, dear Charlotte! And,enjoy the weekend with your parents after performing arias on the 24th of October.Hugs, Doda xxx

    1. Your events are so exciting, a wedding to plan and a book launch you’re going to be very busy. I’ve a concert coming up in Berkshire next year but I think that’s the furthest south at the moment.

    1. It was a very serendipitous meeting, I’d just been told in my 20 children singing class that it would be a good idea to get some individual lessons and Jayne started at school the next week with 30 minute classes 😀🎶 in classical singing.

  8. Don Giovanni… truly sublime… I truly hope that you upload a YouTube video after the concert… Best of luck to you, dear Charlotte… Aquileana 🌟 ☀ ~
