There’s A Worm At The Bottom Of The Garden

Ahead of some exciting projects that I have coming up over the next couple of months I took the opportunity this week to visit my teacher, Judith Howarth, for an energising lesson to help me in my preparations.

We worked on a variety of music, which I will be excited to tell you all about very soon. Whilst I was there we chatted about different operatic roles and it was lovely of her to show me some of the pictures that she has in her home from her fabulous career; so many different roles that she has performed from all around the World. Her mum created photo albums with pictures and newspaper clippings displaying her musical journey, It was so inspiring, so I thought I would take a picture of the two of us and start creating a post degree scrapbook for myself with my Mum and to share my own experiences with you all here on my blog.

This weekend I went back home for a catch up and to relax with my Mum and Dad, we took advantage of the sunny weather today and did a little gardening. It was lovely to spend a few hours in the peacefulness of the garden with my Mum and to practice as we worked, even the birds joined in with my singing 🙂  they especially enjoyed “There’s a worm at the bottom of the garden and his name is Wiggly Woo”

I love the flowers in my Mum’s garden, and always did as a child. Both of my Grandfather’s enjoy growing their own vegetables and tending to their flowers so gardening has always been a family affair for me. I’m sure that is what inspires me to wear such colourful clothes as it always reminds me of my childhood and brings a smile to my face.

Don’t ask me what the names of any of the flowers are but aren’t colours fabulous 🙂  I hope this little bit of an English summer brings a smile to your face as it certainly made me happy.

      1. Amazing workout isn’t?! And all that fresh air as a bonus. I had trouble falling asleep last night and wondered why? I realized it was the first day in some time I hadn’t tended my gardens. Peace.

    1. Thanks Annette, I definately prefer looking and sitting in the garden than gardening! My parents are waiting for some new turf to arrive and in just two weeks the area became full of really long rooted weeds, I hope the new grass comes soon I wouldn’t want to do that again.

    Lot’s of yard work and gardening going on here too! Made my Zucchini Bread again last week. We have had lots of jalapeño peppers and cherry tomatoes.

    1. Hmmm I can’t lie it’s not something I’d want to do every week. Sipping chilled lemonade in the shade maybe, but pulling up weeds and dead-heading noooo!

    1. I think it’s nice to take enjoyment from the simple things, most of these plants come up every year and have been around for years that I remember.

  17. What a great time to spend with your Mom! I notice a big fence – we would have to have one to keep the various hungry mammals in our neighborhood from eating everything! Lovely flowers!

    1. Thank you Doda, we’re having a bit of your weather for a few days, I like that it’s sunny but it’s too hot for me. The garden looks lovely though.

    1. It took soooo long. When Mum threw a pair of gloves to me I thought 10 or 15 minutes of exercise! A few hours later!!! Don’t know how Grandad does it.

  20. Your parents’ garden does look lovely with so many bright flowers. I like your idea about making a post-degree scrapbook. It will be good to look back on in a few years time as there will be so many things you might have forgotten about otherwise.

  24. Hats off to Judith! The mark of a good teacher is to take something already excellent and make it even better. Heaven knows I’m no expert in solo soprano, but your performances always blow my socks off. I only wish I were a good enough composer to write something worthy of your singing.

  27. Lovely summer post, Charlotte. What a beautiful garden your Mum keeps, and it’s always relaxing to be working on something different… like, weeding. Thanks for sharing the photo of you with your teacher. Reminds me, my son’s piano teacher will be celebrating her 70th in the coming week. My son has moved away to another city, but I’ll be sure to bring her something. She’s more than ‘just a piano teacher’. She’s become a family friend through all those growing years when my son learned from her so much more than piano pieces. We still keep in touch with her.

    1. How lovely I’ve had some fabulous piano teachers, great patience! I try to keep in touch with as many of my singing teachers as I can. I visited my teacher from the Junior RNCM recently it’s nice to catch up.

  28. I love this ~ my family is the same, they love growing their own veggies and tending to their flowers/plants/trees. When I am out in Asia, they always send me photos of them gardening telling me what I am missing ~ knowing how growing up I absolutely hated any gardening work :-/ Actually, as a kid I hated all work, just give me a ball and let me play 🙂
