Next Saturday, 9th November I will be performing the role of Pandora in Radius Opera’s final production of The Fire of Olympus.  We will be taking the opera to the Hippodrome Theatre, Halifax Road, Todmorden, OL14 5BB, the performance starts at 7:30 pm. 

I have really enjoyed taking on this role which allowed me to explore the character and bring Pandora to life.

Charlotte Hoather shone as Pandora, here presented as the Presidential Aide who resigns and joins Epimetheus’ gang of rebels. Her clear soprano was especially suited to the nature of the score, and her dramatic performance was strong yet subtle.

There are many poignant moments. I will mention a ‘Queen of the Night’ moment for Pandora.

As The Fire of Olympus draws to a close George and I are looking forward to returning to the North West of England to perform a lunchtime recital at Bamford Chapel and Norden United Reformed Church, Norden Road, Bamford (near Rochdale), OL11 5PQ. If you missed our recital in Warrington then this is a great opportunity to hear our program of music inspired by English texts.

We originally designed the program to celebrate English and American composers and how the music is affected by the different styles and cultures vary. We begin with songs inspired by the English Countryside, local folklore, and Poetry that focuses on Nature‘s connection to love and human emotion. We then decided to throw in a wild card by including the two arias from Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet, sung in English translation. This meant our musical cruise could take a detour to France. Since we were stopping in Paris, George decided to include a piece by one of Paris’s favourite salon players, Frederick Chopin. The piece is called ‘Rondo a la Mazur’ and is one of Chopin’s earliest piano works that showcase his talent of making the piano sparkle. The journey continues as we embark to the New World with musical flourishes of Copland and how his music drew inspiration from American folk songs and finishing off with more glitter with a sprinkling of Bernstein’s.

    1. I’ve loved doing the role of Pandora, a very different character for me. The songs have really grown on me. My Nana preferred Juliet because she knew the story and it was a big sing for me hehe 😂. Thanks for coming to watch Martin.

  10. Wonderful reviews. I really like the poster. And only £4? What a deal. Can you buy a cup of coffee at Starbucks for £4? Your voice is beautiful in the short video. I really like that dress.

      It’s great value for an hours concert isn’t it. I love lunchtime concerts, they are relaxed, friendly and just good fun. I like to introduce the audiences to new music they may not have explored as well as old classical favourites. Bamford is near Rochdale right on the top northern point of Greater Manchester which is one of the main Cities in the UK and its only about an hour from my parents home.

      Glad you liked the dress I noticed I matched the carpet :).

      1. Your dad does really nice work. Did he do the photos? That’s an excellent photo of you he used on the poster.

        Nice to hear you mix it up with new music and classics. I like hearing new music, but it’s also comforting and helps people connect with you when you perform familiar pieces.

        I noticed how nice that dressed looked on you right off. I almost always notice what people wear — probably from all those years of photography.

      2. No Dad didn’t take the photo but he did the composition of the poster, I’m so busy at the moment I’m lucky he likes doing art like that after work.

        I get a mixed response to that series of photos some people like the blow dried bouncy hair but others prefer my more normal styling.

    1. Thank you Lavinia, it’s interesting how different reviewers see different things in a production, we had larger audiences in other locations and I think that helps with atmosphere. I try not to read reviews until after a show run and depend just on the Director if they want any changes but this run is from 14th September to 9th November and I was sent the two above so I was relieved.

      Happy you enjoyed the little snipped I didn’t want to give too much away as I’m singing a similar program in Rochdale.
