Since I started blogging I have met so many supportive and helpful people, people who have inspired me to be myself and pursue my dreams. One of them is Pascal Barnier, a French artist, and a good friend. When he listens to my singing he uses his illustrations to share with me what he sees in his imagination. I find the results absolutely fabulous and have loved sharing them with you all over the last three years.
When he found out that I was to release the “Haugtussa” as an album he decided to produce a video of his images set to my music. When I sing I have in my mind the images of the characters and the story that I am trying to tell, it helps me to find the right emotions to accompany the melodic music and expressive poetry. So to be able to see what someone else imagines when listening to my singing to me is quite fascinating.

This was brilliant because I took the screenshot I had of the meanings of each song and put the English titles into my iTunes. I wanted to buy the album as a CD as well, but I can’t find it, is it available yet?
That’s a great idea to put the English translation into your iTunes! Yes the CDs have arrived I saw them this weekend all packaged up at my parents, I’ve added it into the Album tab in this blog 😊.

Absolutely gorgeous. Pascal’s images reflect the story beautifully–what a combination of two brilliant talents, music and art (visual art, I mean).
Overall, I see the same story of Haughtassa; however, I think everyone visualizes a story just a little differently, which is why it is so nice to see, hear, read, etc. various different insights from different people on the same story. Some of the images I create in my mind are not the same as Pascal’s; yet, I can still understand why he used the ones he did. It enriches our experience in life to see other’s perspectives. I love it!

Thank you Cate, I enjoyed seeing the story this way, like yourself mine was slightly different for example in kidlings dance I really enjoyed the way Pascal expressed the Haugtussa’s joy in the hip hoppity in my head it was just the kids jumping and frolicking but this was fun to watch and I often dance around when I’m happy 💃😀.

Having never listened to the Haugtussa before, this presentation was a lovely way to be introduced to the material. It is always fascinating to see what happens in a collaboration and M. Barnier has done an eye-catching work with this one. Loved the collage of photos of you he cleverly placed throughout the video.

Your vocals are gorgeous. I prefer to listen to you without other images. For me (and I don’t speak for everyone), I prefer to pay attention to how brilliantly you phrase each note. You clearly feel the emotional meaning within the music.
